Eyelid Surgery-Upper Lids
Fuller Eyelids That Lead To A Fuller Life
To improve droopy or poofy eyelids, patients can undergo a blepharoplasty, which is also called an eyelid lift.
The procedure removes excess skin and corrects the fullness of the upper eyelids. This results in a rejuvenated and well-rested appearance. Blepharoplasty can also be combined with a forehead lift to further enhance your overall facial appearance.
Eyelid lifts are generally not covered by insurance plans, but there may be some coverage if your sagging eyelids interfere with vision. Please check with your insurer to verify what your plan covers.
Procedure Overview: Eyelid Surgery-Upper Lids
1. At our outpatient surgical facility, you’ll first be put under IV sedation.
2. An incision is made in the upper eyelids, following natural contour lines, creases and a fine line at the eyelid’s outer edge.
3. Excess fat and skin are removed.
4. Incisions are closed with fine sutures.
5. The eyelid lift usually takes about an hour to perform.
Recovery Time: Eyelid Surgery-Upper Lids
Bruising and swelling can last 10-14 days, but applying a cold compress after the blepharoplasty for three days can initially help reduce that. However, there generally isn’t any pain and you can return to light work in 2-3 days as long as you won’t mind your appearance.
Sutures are removed a week after the blepharoplasty. Although there will be scars, they won’t be noticeable because they’re placed in the eyelid crease. You can resume strenuous activities six weeks after the eyelid lift.
Frequently Asked Eyelid Surgery-Upper Lids Questions
Q: Will my insurance cover the cost of the upper blepharoplasty?
Answer: In general, blepharoplasty is not covered by medical insurance for cosmetic purposes, though some coverage may be available when treating sagging upper eyelids which interfere with vision. Patients should be sure to check with their own insurer.
