Risks

With improved techniques over the last several years, liposuction has become easier and increasingly safer than what it once was. Although not too common, the following are various risks that some people may experience after liposuction:

  • Worsening of cellulite
  • Loose skin
  • Irregular pigmentation
  • Irregular contours
  • Changes in the sensation of the skin
  • Bruising
  • Thermal burn (only with ultrasound-assisted technique)
  • Poor healing

Every surgery come with certain risks, however, great precaution will always be taken during the procedure to help ensure minimal effects.

Complications

Major complications that may occur with liposuction are a rare occurrence, but it is important that you are well informed of any possible complications. Those who have liposuction done in multiple areas or a larger area have an increased risk for adverse effects.

Some of which can include:

  • Fluid buildup
  • Persistent swelling
  • Seroma

The following outcomes are extremely rare and may occur due to additional risk factors which will be discussed during your consultation:

  • Embolism
  • Infections
  • Visceral perforations
  • Skin necrosis
  • Toxicity from anesthesia
  • Deep vein thrombosis

Not everyone is a candidate for liposuction. Dr. Rifai will take all the time necessary to discuss your potential candidacy.
