Vein Treatments We Offer
Our venous treatments can be performed on a standalone basis, or they may readily be combined with other procedures as part of a comprehensive facial makeover or body sculpting protocol. Whether you choose to address varicose veins or spider veins, you’ll be able to walk immediately following your treatment, and time off from work is rarely needed.
Varicose veins are large, bulging veins that commonly appear on the legs, especially the calves. The term varicose, which derives from the Latin varix, meaning tortuous, refers to a vein that has become enlarged and twisted. While these veins are merely a cosmetic issue for some individuals, others experience symptoms like
- Aching legs that feel heavy
- Cramps in the affected area
- Swollen ankles
- Restless leg syndrome
- Skin discoloration near the varicose veins
Varicose veins appear when small one-way valves within the blood vessels no longer prevent blood from flowing backward. Such veins are most commonly seen in the legs because gravity further worsens the condition.
The most advanced modern treatment for varicose veins is endovenous thermal ablation, in which a small laser is used to close and shrink the affected veins. This revolutionary procedure takes the place of the older treatment known as stripping. The procedure takes only 45 minutes to an hour, and only local anesthesia is required to numb the affected area.
Spider veins, or telangiectasias, are the small, web-like veins that sometimes appear on their own and in other cases accompany varicose veins. Such veins are usually harmless, though some cases may indicate a more serious condition like high blood pressure.
Treatment for spider veins usually involves injection treatment. In this procedure, Dr. Rifai injects a substance called a sclerosant into the affected vein. The injected fluid hardens the venous tissue such that it eventually shrinks away.
